{sponsored} Operation Smile - Helping Children In Need

I worked with Campus Book Rentals last year, so when I was recently contacted about working with them again I opted to share a bit of information about one of their partners, Operation Smile.

Though we're through the holiday season that doesn't mean that charity organizations should be ignored for another year - they need support every day. Operation Smile is an international medical charity that changes lives by helping heal children who suffer from facial deformities, like cleft lip and palate, in over 60 countries.

When researching Operation Smile I learned a few things that I found surprising:
-Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft
-One in 10 of those children will die before their first birthday
-Children who do survive with these deformities are often unable to eat, speak, socialize, or smile
-In some place these children are shunned and rejected
-In most cases, parents cannot afford the corrective surgery that would allow them to live a productive life

I completely support Operation Smile in their belief that every child deserves access to safe, quality surgical care, as well as a future filled with hope and dignity. The volunteers who provide their services through Operation Smile have provided more than 3.5 million comprehensive patient evaluations and 200,000+ free surgeries for children and young adults born with facial deformities since their start in 1982. They even train local doctors across the world in developing countries, further strengthening healthcare systems in some of the poorest areas of the world so children can receive treatment.

If you want to help Operation Smile you can visit their website and check out Ways To Give - there are a variety of options. And if you're a college student (and perhaps unable to donate financially) consider Campus Book Rentals for your textbook - they donate to Operation Smile with each textbook rented!
