happy valentine's day!

via.
I wanted to put together all kinds of posts this week -crafts, a book list, movies- all related to love in the spirit of Valentine's Day. I managed to not complete my heart wreath at all. I only got two books on my list- Pride & Prejudice and The Night Circus- because I don't generally tend to read anything with a deeply profound romantic plot. And I never even started with the movies once I realized that every movie I love that illustrates a beautiful relationship also illustrates a deeply broken relationship and is actually really sad (see Revolutionary Road and Blue Valentine.)

So, last week I gave you pink mason jars and a Valentine's inspired playlist, and I suppose that will do, as far as blogging goes.

This is our fourth Valentine's together and even though we're both working, I'm still excited!

Our first year together we had only been dating for a few months. We cooked a little dinner in my apartment and ate ice cream cake before Jason had to drive an hour back home. It was a quiet evening, interrupted slightly by an inconsiderate roommate, but still special.

Our second year together Jason spent ample time in the kitchen working on a new recipe while I finished putting his gift together.

Last year Jason made reservations at a restaurant we both wanted to try, Proof, and we drove up to Louisville to celebrate. It was a complete surprise to me! I wore a red dress, we had a delicious dinner, and then we got drinks and walked around 21c Museum Hotel's gallery.

This year we decided to celebrate at home again. Jason is making dinner, and I'm making a surprise dessert! He will read this (Hi! Love you!) so I won't be sharing what it is just yet. And since it's something I have never tried to make before, well if it doesn't turn out we'll never talk about it again. If it does, I will be sure to share later.

Regardless of who you may be sharing your Valentine's Day with, I hope you have a lovely day! I know I can't wait to get home and spend some time with my fiancĂ©! I am so incredibly lucky to have met such a wonderful man who makes me laugh every day, loves me more than I deserve, and constantly finds ways to surprise and amaze me. Happy Valentine's Day!!
