labor day weekend, missing you already

I am not excited to be back at work today, I was quite enjoying the long weekend. It poured rain every day which meant we slept extraordinarily well, college football season kicked off, and we ate some amazing food, I couldn't ask for a better lazy weekend.

We started Friday night out with dinner at Longhorn. We planned to cook, but J received a sweet surprise gift card for selling his soul to a huge project at work over the past month. White peach sangria for everyone! (Or just me. He had bourbon. Seriously, though if you haven't tried it, you should. I'm going to be sad when it's off the menu.)

This movie poster is creepier than the actual movie.
While we planned to see The Apparition this weekend, I was anxious to catch a horror movie and the only one showing locally was The Possession. We joined my sister and her husband, plus another couple, for the late show Friday night. It was... not very good. I'm a huge horror fan and the story just doesn't cut it and the music is just too dramatic. It had a lot of potential, but it just never got there. We read that Apparition had even worse reviews, so we're waiting for it to come out on Blu-ray. I suggest saving your money for The Possession if you were on the fence about seeing it.

After opting not to see another movie, we still decided to venture into Louisville for lunch at Tom + Chee on Saturday. Best decision of the day! Gourmet grilled cheese and soup on a rainy day? Perfection, especially when that soup is jalapeno cheddar soup. If anyone knows a recipe for this, please, please share. I cannot wait to go back and since fall is creeping in, and it is perfect cool weather food I know it won't be too long.

The rest of the weekend, we managed to run all of our errands in the pouring rain. I can't say that running in and out of stores and getting drench actually annoyed me though, I love it compared to dealing with the summer heat. Fall is my absolute favorite! It was also perfect chili weather, so I made another huge crockpot of it for the week. And I can't even tell you how many hours we've spent occupied with football.

That would be our line backer tackling their quarterback!
WKU (our alma mater) kicked off their season with a big win, 49-10, over Austin Peay! I cannot wait for October to get here so we can head down for a game! Then, UofL beat UK 32-14 for the Governor's Cup. Now, if our NFL team, Cincinnati, can pull off a win over Baltimore in their first game it's going to make for a pretty sweet season opening for all of our favorite teams!

I am ready for the weekend already! Mostly, I'm ready for more football... and extra sleep.

  1. We watched The Possession this weekend too...it was...meh. I didn't think it was completely terrible, but it has ALL been done before.

I would definitely save the money (we were desperate for something to do and the only other movie showing was Diary of a Wimpy Kid...) if there is anything else to watch in the theater!

Note to Hollywood writers/directors...bugs are not scary. Bugs coming out of a kid's mouth are especially not scary when you've seen it 1,000 times.

  2. That grilled cheese and soup sounds amazing, and is making me hungry just thinking about it! Glad to hear about all of your great wins, although my cousins are all UK alums, so they were disheartened with the outcome this week. I'm such a bad Kentuckian that I don't really care one way or another! Shame, I know!

And I kind of wished for rain this past weekend, but it rains so infrequently here in LA that that would've been like a 5% chance of happening!
