what might've been lost

When Jason and I first started hanging out we went to a record store in Louisville. While there, Jason opted to replace a record that took a leave of absence in his collection… that record was Bon Iver’s For Emma, Forever Ago.

Before meeting Jason I had heard Bon Iver and I wasn’t crazy about the music, but that evening when we got back to Jason’s and he put this on something was different, and I fell in love with it.

Now, this is one record that I’ve almost always had in my possession, when I’ve had a record player… and when I don’t have it, I’m hoping that my amazing boyfriend either gives a song or two a listen, or if he sees it he at the very least thinks of me.

Each song on this album is incredible. The above post is “The Wolves (Act I & II)” which is not my favorite song on the album, but it means a lot to me.

The lyrics in the song “what might have been lost…” have had an almost haunting connotation to me since I really listened to the song in the late fall. I’ve never written about what it was like when Jason and I started dating, but at one point in time I didn’t think it was going to happen. We came into one another lives completely out of nowhere, and I don’t know if ‘unexpectedly’ really covers it when I think back… You can’t just stop life to explore an intriguing stranger when he/she stumbles into your path.

Anyway, once life quit being lame and we were finally together, and since everything has been so amazing, hearing this song again -hearing those lyrics again - led me to think about what might have been lost if we hadn’t ever been together.

Jason has made me happier than I have ever been. We are perfect together, in a world where nothing is perfect. To not have that, to know that is what could have been lost… it would have been terrible. I am so glad that we didn’t have to deal with that experience, and that life is good. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
